Steinway Construction, Inc. is pleased that you want to be a part of this beautiful area. Whether you are considering living here full time or part-time, you are embarking on a wise investment with a great return rate as this areas’ real estate has appreciated approx. 8 % per year.

In following with wise investments for our future, our company has researched the best investments for our area. Our findings show that the growing rates of newcomers/ homeowners are looking for “Affordable Green Development.” The wave of this county’s future is based on healthy and community -sustainable living. We know that with the continuous rise in utility bills, both our generations now, as well as our future generations can no longer afford not to be aware of “Green Building.”

The Wet Mountain Valley has many types of homes that are being built. We are seeing a trend of “alternative homes” such as straw bale, solar homes, and now we are seeing a viable direction for more concrete homes. Concrete homes have withstood both hurricanes and fires; this has been proven with hurricane Katrina, as well as with the wildfires in California. Our valley has seen its share of wildfires as well as high winds. Why wouldn’t we want our homes to withstand these natural occurrences?  Why wouldn’t we want to have an energy efficient home that has the benefit of being both low maintenance as well as being a solid investment?

Our company continues evolving and improving the “Earth  Sheltered Home”. This type of home has been modified now to grow your own fruit trees and vegetables year round. This home is built on site, low in cost, and gives you more in value than any pre-fab home that you can find. These homes designed by our network are so efficient due to the implementation of thermal mass; you wouldn’t need any conventional heating system (with the proper set up). If you do require a heat system from your lending institution, your supplemental heating costs can be as low as 0-$ 500.00 a YEAR.  The “thermal mass” you choose to use absorbs the heat during the day, and expels the heat back into the house at night. We live in an area that has 310 days of sun on average. Why not design your home to be heated by passive solar and store it’s energy at the same time? Why not use our natural resources such as sun and earth?

We have teamed up with local Sustainable Ways, a non-profit co-op organization who is striving to be one of the major resources for a sustainable community including a co-op of local foods, as well as various programs with children, adult programs, and education seminars for everyone in regards to how to live in a sustainable community region. Our construction company sees the connection between community sustaining and the homes our community lives in, which is vital for the eco-print of our valley. If we construct our homes to tailor self-sustainability, we can reduce costs, promote health, and live in a place where we can be dynamic.

Our Custer County financial institutions are providing financing for these homes including concrete, solar, as well as earth homes as they believe the function it provides as well as “it makes sense since our valley is heading towards a sustainable community.” We would like to take you on a tour of homes built by Steinway Construction, et al so you can visually see how ecological and efficient these homes are.

Custer County continues to strive towards building a community with integrity, as well as reaching out to newcomers who are looking for a developing community with ecological vision of our future and for generations to come.

Please call 719-783-4070 for more information or stop by our office in the Minnequa Works Credit Union to set up a tour of our eco-homes.
